Add what you know about the package
These details improve the analysis, but unknown benefits can stay blank.
Build your benefits.
Turn percentages, allowances and plan details into a clearer picture of your offer. Start with what you know and use labeled estimates where available.
What comes out of your paycheck?
Your share of benefits matters. Employer-paid premiums are not deducted from your pay.
KFF 2025: $1,440 annually for single coverage. This is not a local or employer-specific quote.
See the KFF benchmark ↗Blank deductions are unknown and excluded from this preliminary calculation. Enter the amount, or 0 only when none applies. Add life or disability premiums, union dues, or other paycheck deductions here. Do not enter them again in living costs.
Use this only for qualified payroll benefits. It reduces modeled federal and payroll taxable wages. Turn off for after-tax premiums.
Retirement and additional payroll settings
Reduces federal taxable income but not Social Security or Medicare wages. Limited to the standard 2026 annual limit of $24,500; no catch-up contribution or employer match modeled. This is retirement saving, separate from your cash savings goal below.
YOUR REAL LIFE
Build the monthly affordability picture
Your household, taxes, and budget determine what the offer leaves behind.
Your household & monthly budget
Other take-home is already-taxed support from another household member; it is not additional taxable income of this employee. Use the local budget controls below to model household costs. Changing this count alone does not change expenses or claim tax credits.
State & local tax estimate
Select a community to fill in a tax estimate.
Adjust local tax allowance
Use your effective city/county rate on adjusted wages. Clear to restore the benchmark where available; enter 0 only if you know none applies.
Planning estimate. Automatic mode uses published brackets and a basic standard deduction. Personal exemptions, tax credits, some deduction phaseouts, and state payroll taxes are not included. Living and working in different states requires your own combined estimate.
Coverage and source dates
Base schedules: Tax Foundation’s February 2026 compilation, retrieved September 2, 2026; some inflation parameters remain at 2025 levels. Georgia, South Carolina, West Virginia, Maine, and Utah include later published updates; Ohio includes its statutory base tax. This is a simplified model, not a complete tax return or paycheck calculation. It omits federal-tax-paid deductions, high-income tax recapture, and certain state adjustments. Benefits use the federal pre-tax treatment as a modeling approximation; Pennsylvania retirement deferrals remain taxable. Local averages are planning allowances, not an address-based tax lookup. State paid leave, disability, and other payroll levies are excluded; add actual amounts to other payroll deductions once only.
Start with a local budget
Local rent + national food + regional spending. Choose your household, apply the estimates, then edit to fit your needs.

Medical out-of-pocket covers expected copays, prescriptions, and deductible spending. Health premiums are already deducted above; do not include them here. A deductible is not automatically an annual expense.
Tax estimate details & credits
2026 federal tax brackets and standard deduction, plus Social Security and Medicare. State income tax uses an automatic planning estimate, with a local benchmark where available, or your custom combined rate. Assumes W-2 wages, taxpayers under 65, and the selected filing status. No automatic child credits, refundable credits, itemizing, overtime deductions, or other special deductions. Credits entered here must already reflect your eligibility and phaseouts. This estimates annual tax liability divided by 12, not exact payroll withholding.
IRS 2026 tax parameters ↗Your obligations & savings
Use actual monthly payments. No degree cost or new student loan is assumed. Put car payments in either transportation or debt, not both. Cash savings are additional to any retirement payroll contribution.
